Reading about Decorative Art History and I think there’s a beautiful parallel to building start-ups:

Hand-made objects have a natural economic incentive to be great. If you’re making a chair by hand, it’s going to take you 12 hours so you might as well invest an extra 3 or 4 hours making it great because it’ll be more than 33% easier to sell (or you can get a 33% higher price).

There was a golden age of craftsmanship and amazing decorative pieces that existed at the edge of mass-production.

Start-ups that build by hand, that do things that don’t scale, have the same natural economic incentive to be great as well.

Selling manually and delivering the product manually doesn’t just bring invaluable learnings, it’s the path to building something high-quality that people love.
